100% Ceasefire

We are deeply troubled by the violence enacted in our communities. This violence is a product of oppressive systems that largely victimize young men of color.

A national program called Operation Ceasefire brings together police, clergy, and community in a program intended to stem gang violence. Unfortunately the components of the program which are supposed to offer jobs and other support to young people in urban areas are underfunded.

The Interfaith Tent for Justice – originally formed in support of Occupy Oakland – and its allies see the increased militarization of police and security forces in the US as an even greater and ever increasing threat to community safety and well-being.

We call for 100% Ceasefire.

We recognize that this is a long-term goal for our society.

Our immediate goals:

1. To create police accountability for killing and brutality, starting in Oakland.

2. To see impartial investigations into cases of extrajudicial killings by police.

3. To repeal the Police Officers Bill of Rights, which currently makes investigation and prosecution of police nearly impossible.

Our other long-term goals are those of social justice. We wish – and work – for all members of the community to have access to healthy food, medical care, fair housing, good education, creative expression, and the right to feel safe in their neighborhoods.

Please join us every First Friday in Downtown Oakland, CA.

7th and Broadway. 6pm. Main police station.

We will talk to passersby, and read the names of those killed by police in Oakland and the surrounding areas.

What is remembered, lives.

The Interfaith Tent for Justice was formed in support of Occupy Oakland. We now attempt to work for peace, justice, and equity for all. One such project is 100% Ceasefire, which aims to address the profiling and killing of young black men in Oakland and throughout California.
